I picked up this painted turtle from the middle of the road. He was quite a bit bigger than most of them out there. It was too late for the smaller turtles that had already been creamed by a vehicle. According to the website I think that this is a male southern painted turtle. He was pretty cute. I s'pose he's out hunting females as I type this.
