A BREAK FROM HOUSE CLEANING
This weekend David and I replaced 1/2 our fence. According to Mr. Wayne, who lives behind us the fence was at least 15 years old. Which makes me think it's probably the original fence because the house is only 16 years old. Our poor fence swayed with the wind and the posts are rotten through. It somehow survived hurricane Ike, thankfully, but the derelict old fence has gotten to the point of no return and we were concerned we'd come home to find our pups in a neighbors yard.Lessons Learned
- Post hole digging is super hard work - especially because we have clay, not soil
- David is really good at post hole digging, he can dig several in one day that are 24 inches deep
- I can only post hole dig about 16-18 inches deep
- When the neighbor says "Maybe I'll be over after a while" he means he's never showing up - which we should have known because we have watched him watch his father-in-law over haul the yard. (We think our other neighbor will be different and he's probably 20 years older than the neighbor on the side we just finished.)
- Working my muscles at 24 hour prevents me from being sore
- Running every morning with Sunshine does not keep David from being sore
- Knocking down an old fence is super satisfying (I got to take down most of that 1/2 of the old fence myself)
So the pictures are of the old section we have to replace starting Friday and the new section we finished last night. David probably worked 10 hours Friday and I probably worked about 4. Saturday we were both out there from 7am 'til 5pm. Sunday we got home from church made a quick Home Depot run and worked from about 1pm-7pm. This weekend we both work on Friday so it's going to be an even faster job. We kind of have a rhythm now so hopefully we can get the job done. The neighbors behind us have two small dogs so it's in everyone's interest for us to finish it before the week starts.
