Becca has a job!

Once we land in a town I usually go to the temporary employment offices nearby to register with them. Sometimes they are able to place me in a job right away, some times not. I went to one on Monday and they had me fill out the usual paper work and do the usual testing (computer skills, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, speed typing....) but when I was through they said that I would have to return the next day for an interview. They have some dumb policy about only interviewing the people that are willing to go back to their office a second time for an interview. I guess that they are looking for people that are willing to work to get a job or something, I don't know. Well I had an appointment with another temp place first thing Tuesday morning. I had worked with Kelly Services in 2000 in Tyler, TX so they had pulled my work history and what not. I walked in and they were talking about two jobs that were possibilities for me. Once I did their usual testing and updated my paper work they offered me two jobs. One was going to be at least 40 hours a week and at least 5 days a week. The other, the one I took, is 2 or 3 days a week with about 24 hours max. It works with my school schedule so I took it. It's the highest hourly wage I have ever made. I'm working at Nalco (http://www.nalco.com/ASP/index.asp) in their legal/patent department. I am in accounts payable. Or at least I release the bills to be paid. The actual accounts are offshore. So I track the incoming bills, the pending bills, the different types of bills (patent, trademark, services) and that sort of thing. I've done accounts payable work before but not with so many different aspects. It was for SimplexGrinnel and with them we just paid the bills unless the services or products hadn't been received. Here, at Nalco, I have to hold back bills for different accounts and have the actual accounting people determine which bills will be paid in which months based on budget... Anyway, I also file these bills in their paper form and help the others in my department with whatever they need. I think it'll be fun. It's a really relaxed department. I have to dress business casual but they don't have dumb rules about pantie hose and what not (when I worked for Xerox women HAD to wear them or trouser sox, no bare feet, no athletic sox...). So I think it'll be good. It seems relatively easy as long as I keep up with the work and don't get behind on the bills. Plus the pay is really good and I am only working 16 or so hours. Which is nice because when I start school it won't interfere. And David likes it because I'm still at home quite a bit. (He likes it when I am at home because when I am not working he doesn't do anything around the house such as cleaning and laundry. When we both work 40 hours we both do the housework... takes two to make the messes and dirty the laundry and if we're both gone a lot it takes two to clean up and do laundry) so I told him (jokingly of course) that he's got the best of both worlds right now, a second income AND minimal house cleaning. Although that will probably change when I go back to school. We will have to see how much time it takes for classes and homework. Anyway, I'm excited about this job. I really think I will like working for this company and I think I will really enjoy the hours. I have never worked part time!
